Coming from various parts of the Midwest I'm now a New Yorker, spending my days at Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and most nights writing.
I have a Master's Degree in English Literature from Bradley University in Peoria IL and am seeking representation for Stuck in the Tower with You, an inclusive 79,000-word quippy, pop culture filled take on Rapunzel. This standalone YA Urban Fantasy blends fairy-tale reimagining like Cinder with the irreverence and kick-ass women of Heroine Complex and a sprinkle of Amy Sherman-Palladino banter. It has crossover and sequel potential.
Coming from a line of powerful witches may sound cool, but Elaine knows there are some downsides… like the little wrinkle of her family dying in a fire set by witches hellbent on stealing her power. Elaine was supposed to die that night, and someone keeps trying to finish the job so for the last ten years her life has depended on the warded walls of Woolworth Tower. Elaine’s cousins Ifede and Bhavesh are trapped in the Tower with her, the sole survivors of their generation. All three are desperate to escape and have a chance at real lives. Ifede aches to find her dream woman while Elaine longs to see the world that she tries to capture in her paintings and Bhavesh hopes to overcome the grief and fear that keep him locked away from life. With TV and movies as their window to the world, they pour their energy into finding who murdered their families and becoming scrappy heroes, but it turns out that becoming a scrappy hero is harder than the training montages would suggest. After a few explosions and several concussions, they’ve got fighting skills and disguise amulets so they can make brief trips outside. It had seemed so simple: go out, find who murdered their families, eliminate the threat, woohoo freedom. But the cousins make the frightening discovery that whoever attacked them is trying to find and kill every woman with ties to their family. Now they’re now in a race to find the culprits before more women are murdered. Just when they think the source of the attacks and a life away from the Tower are in sight, a stupid mistake brings the danger right to their door.
How do you choose between rent, food, and medicine?
The world is reopening, but people are still faced with choosing between rent, food or lifesaving medications. Your donation can save them.
The money we raise will help provide lifesaving medications, nutritious meals, health care, counseling, emergency financial assistance and so much more to men, women and children in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and Washington, D.C. BC/EFA has also sent $300,000 to help those facing devastation in the Ukraine.
Every donation will make a huge difference. $25 provides a week of healthy meals to someone battling life threatening illness.
Your generosity will help so many people who won't ever get the chance to thank you.
What we do together makes a difference.
Much love, Madeline
